Yes Standard Uninc DC (Dustin Craven) Review

About the Standard Uninc DC:

Beyond the Yes Standard, this directional volume twin has a wide platform supercharges performance wherever you ride. The Standard Uninc DC is specifically designed for Dustin Craven and his needs as a premier backcountry freestyle weapon that can handle powder, drops, backcountry kickers, and pretty much anything you would encounter in big mountain riding.
For the rest of us mere mortals, you get a supercharged and confidence building all mountain freestyle weapon you can use anywhere, from your local mountain and into deep days in the backcountry.

Key Features:

  • Classic Camber Profile: 7 out of 10 flex, this profile can be a little less forgiving but provides great edge hold and pop, geared toward the aggressive or advanced rider.
  • Sintered Base: Poplar/Paulownia/Bamboo core, and TRIAX (fiberglass) construction adding torsional stiffness for stability
  • Directional Twin: A freestyle shape with a slight directional emphasis, and don’t worry, the Standard Uninc DC rides great switch.
  • Mid Wide Platform (wider than most boards in this category, but not too wide)
  • Forever Flex: no break in, this board has the flex it will keep.
  • MidBite outline: delivering unparalleled response and edge hold. A section between the bindings that provides optimal response turn initiation in any condition.

Review:

Dustin Craven has been blowing minds with his big mountain freestyle riding, and we’ve always been impressed with how hard he charges every line. We had to review the Yes Standard Uninc DC to see how he collaborated with Yes to make a pro model that seems to ride any terrain with power and control. The camber profile on Dustin’s pro model make this board more aggressive than the Yes Standard, which has camber and rocker, so it’s ready to be driven by a rider that wants to put power into every move. I noticed this right away when riding it, you get back what you put into this board. Push it hard into carves and it really responds with great feedback, want some playful quick turns, you can get that too. The MidBite section(between the bindings) makes this board very responsive, and the camber profile really provides great pop and you can load the tip/tail on nollies/ollies. With a wider waist width at 25.8 on the 156, you have a very stable platform to initiate carves and takeoffs and landings from.

For all mountain riding, I felt this board really was a blast, you can rail turns on groomers, ride mogul fields easily(if you really want to…), hit the park, and when there’s pow this board really opens up. I found the Standard Uninc DC to be really nimble in powder, deep pow turns were effortless, and I had a few little cliff drops that felt so easy to land with this board, it really builds confidence when riding powder and in all mountain terrain when you need it most. In pow, you don’t need to put much pressure on your back foot, and even in a foot of fresh snow I didn’t have any issues riding the reference stance, if it was deeper I might have used the slamback inserts. This board just makes everything feel easy!

The Standard Uninc DC also can handle side hits, jumps and rails. If you plan on using this board for your quiver killer, go ahead, it will handle everything. I might prefer something a little softer for just park, but if you’re riding all mountain terrain at your local resort, this thing will rip it up too. I found this board easy to maneuver switch as well, i felt right at home on it.

The artwork on the topsheet and base graphic this year are awesome, I found myself finding new elements of the topsheet graphic that Luke Sudermann created every time I rode it, and the base graphic with the Uninc pig dye cut(unincorporated, never sell out!) is a great touch.

I can’t find anything that I didn’t like with this board, it rips up any terrain, just like Dustin Craven, it’s truly the one board you can use all season long, a quiver killer for an advanced rider.

Overall Impressions:

If you prefer a camber profile twin snowboard, and want a wider platform that will handle any type of terrain from powder, cliff drops, backcountry kickers, and anything at your local mountain from groomers, steeps, trees, moguls, and park this board will do it all.

This board is on the stiffer end, and thus an aggressive ride so it’s geared for the advanced rider looking to take on all that winter has to offer.
