Review

The KÜHL Reactiv™ Grid Full Zip Hoody has become one of those pieces I reach for without thinking, mostly because it’s proven itself in so many different situations. The first real test was a frosty morning up at Mink Creek. It was about 28°, the kind of cold that usually forces me into a heavier midlayer, but I wanted to see what this thing could do. Within a few minutes on the trail, I could feel the graphene‑infused fleece doing its thing—warm enough to take the edge off the cold, but breathable enough that I never felt like I needed to stop and shed layers. The interior grid pattern kept air moving, and the brushed lining was soft enough that I wore it over just a T‑shirt. By the time I hit the ridge, I realized I hadn’t thought about my temperature once, which is the best compliment you can give a midlayer.

What surprised me even more was how seamlessly it transitioned into everyday life. After that hike, I kept it on while running errands around town, and it never felt out of place. The cut is athletic but not tight, and the fabric has a clean, modern look that reads more like a casual jacket than a technical fleece. I’ve worn it to dinner, to meetings, and even on a casual date night, and it fits right in. It’s rare to find something that performs on the mountain but still looks sharp enough to walk into a restaurant without feeling like you’re dressed for a gear expo.

The hood has become one of my favorite features. On that same morning at Mink Creek, the wind picked up on the ridge, and flipping the hood up made an immediate difference. It hugs your head just enough to stay put without feeling restrictive, and it slides under a helmet without bunching. I’ve used it on windy days, on early‑morning dog walks, and even just to warm up the truck before stepping outside. It adds warmth without ever making me overheat, which is a rare balance.

Overall Impressions

Over the past few weeks, I’ve worn the Reactiv Grid Hoody on hikes, to dinner, and under a shell on a cold day in the mountains. It’s warm, breathable, odor‑resistant, and moves with me instead of fighting me. The fit leans athletic, and the price is definitely premium, but the versatility makes it feel like you’re getting multiple pieces in one. It’s the kind of layer that ends up living by the door because you grab it for everything—trail days, town days, and even nights out—because it just works and looks good doing it.
