Review:

When we caught a glimpse of the new Never Summer Llama, we were both intrigued by the artwork of Jimbo Phillips and with the board itself. Never Summer has been updating their line up subtly over the years and the Llama is a great example of that evolution. With an asymmetrical offering evolving from the FunSlinger, ProtoSlinger and now the Llama. The Llama has been given their latest profile, recurve camber. We appreciate how they thoughtfully add new tech and update their line every year.

So, besides the aesthetics and new recurve profile, why would you want this board? Well, if you’re an all-mountain freestyle rider who uses the entire mountain as your playground, you may be intrigued by the Never Summer Llama. We found this board to be mid-stiff and damp, and very playful. The Llama will allow you to carve quick and nimble turns or lay out long, drawn-out carves.

This board has tons of pop and can handle any jump or rail line at your local mountain. We may recommend other boards for riding powder(Valhalla or the Proto FR) but for all-mountain freestyle the Llama can easily become your daily driver.
It’s offered in both regular and mid-wide “X” options for larger boot sizes, and we both chose the X versions to ride. It’s up to you on how you’d like the board to perform, we both prefer a wider platform under our feet for stability. If you have a boot size 9 or under, the regular size would be recommended.

This board can handle high speeds, even though it’s not a very damp ride, it will have a little chatter in the tip/tail, it’s negligible, it has a durable sintered base, and the matte topsheet with the artwork of Jimbo Phillips is RAD!

If you like asymmetrical boards, this one will allow you to initiate turns more easily and have even more trench digging edge hold with the shorter and deeper heel-side sidecut. Of note, the asym is not very noticeable, but you’ll want to make sure you mount your bindings correctly with the heelcups on the “Heel Side” labeled edge of the top sheet!

Overall Impressions:

The Never Summer Llama is a fun board for the upper intermediate to advanced rider looking to make the mountain their freestyle playground with premium artwork and materials, we highly recommend you go check out the Never Summer Llama.
