Giro Comp Snow Goggles Review

If you demand perfection on the mountain, then look to the Giro Comp goggle all season long to deliver clarity in any condition you’re riding in.

About Vivid lens technology:

In partnership with ZEISS®, we(Giro) created our patented VIVID technology to optimize vision in all snow-affected light environments. VIVID technology does this by blocking out the spectrum of light that creates flat light conditions. More importantly, VIVID allows in the spectrum of light that improves contrast in snow conditions—the blue light part of the spectrum. This is the VIVID difference. The result is maximum contrast to see the details of your terrain, while also providing full UV protection

Chris’ Review:

I’ve been a fan of Giro Goggles for a long time now, and from their entry point goggle to their top tier goggle you are going to get a great product. The new Giro Comp goggle continues the tradition as one of the best top tier Goggles on the market. If you want premium goggles and demand perfection the Comp is a top contender. This goggle features VIVID Lens technology and optics by ZEISS®, providing superior optical clarity. Giro’s EXV+ frameless design maximizes your field of view, so you’ll be able to see anyone trying to sneak up on you while you’re eurocarving on that groomer in the morning.

The magnetic SNAPSHOT lens system makes switching lenses on the fly a breeze securely locking in the lens, and the ventilation on these goggles is superb, say goodbye to any fogging issues. The triple-layer face foam is so comfortable you’ll hardly know you have your goggles on, it’s like a happy little hug for your face. I’ve ridden with the Comp goggles throughout the winter in almost any condition and I have to say they are some of the most comfortable high performance goggles I’ve ever used, they stay in place and I’ve used them with Giro helmets and other brand helmets. The fit is snug and secure, and you get a very versatile helmet to goggle compatibility with this goggle. The new expansive view frame truly provides a wide view with great peripheral vision.

I’ve always appreciated a wide goggle strap that’s easy to adjust to get a secure fit and that’s what you get with this goggle. I have a medium face profile and these goggles are very versatile so you don’t have to worry about them being too big as well, they will fit most face profiles. The Toric Vivid lens is said to mimic the human eye to provide superior optics and it does, the lens is one of the best I’ve ever ridden in for clarity and to prevent fogging. While I ride in mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions, when it was nuking snow or low light the standard lens was perfect for most conditions, and when I needed the included low light lens it boosted the contrast of the terrain. The protective extra lens case is a must have, in my opinion, to protect your lens from being scratched, happy Giro provided it.

I run warm, so I’m constantly dumping heat from my helmet and vents, so I am always happy when my goggles don’t fog, and the EVAK Vent Technology foam, which releases moistures, has really made a difference in creating a fog free day for me, much appreciated.

Overall Impressions:

If you are looking for a premier goggle with all the bells and whistles that will last several seasons and is compatible with Giro helmets and other brands as well, the stylish Giro Comp goggle is a great option, I can’t find anything wrong with this goggle, it really hits all the marks.

Dave’s Thoughts:

Riding at Grand Targhee Resort in foggy conditions put the Giro Comp Goggle to the test, and its frameless design proved to be a game-changer. The lack of a bulky frame gave me an ultra-wide field of view, which made a noticeable difference when navigating through dense fog and heavy snowfall. On Targhee’s wide, rolling terrain, peripheral visibility is crucial, and the EXV (Expansion View) frame design helped keep the landscape in sight without feeling restricted.

Pairing the frameless construction with the VIVID Toric lens by ZEISS, the goggles enhanced contrast and definition, making subtle terrain features stand out even in flat light. While Grand Targhee’s moisture-heavy atmosphere can be brutal on optics, the Evak Vent Technology worked effectively to prevent fog buildup, keeping vision clear run after run.

Overall, the Giro Comp Goggle’s frameless build, sharp optics, and solid ventilation made it a strong performer in Targhee’s ever-changing conditions. For riders tackling fog, snowfall, and shifting light, these goggles offer dependable clarity and a comfortable, unrestricted view.
